Spring is sprung – and the new term starts on Saturday

Thanks to all of you who have contacted us and signed up for the  Spring Term of the British Saturday Club. We start this Saturday March 15th with a session all about Spring. In the following weeks we are going to be making dinosaur biscuits, talking about light and dark, going on a dinosaur hunt and finishing just before Easter with a session all about the Easter bunny and maybe some chocolate!

The new term

The new term will be starting on Saturday the 18th of January and will look a bit like this (subject to some tweaking):

In the first week we will be playing party and other games to help the kids settle in and get to know the new additions to the group. Games include ‘What’s the time, Mr Wolf’ and ‘Duck Duck Goose’.

Week 2 is Burns’ night, so there will be a focus on all things Scottish and while we can’t promise the kids will learn the Highland Fling, we do hope that they will go home able to belt out a passable rendition of ‘Ye canny shove yer granny aff a bus’.

Week 3 will be based on the book Where the Wild Things Are, with a craft activity and a game aimed at looking at feelings and emotions.

Week 4 we will be looking at space (as in outer, not as in room to move) and light and dark, with the help of shadow puppets. This theme will be continued in week 6.

Week 5 will be based on the book One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish, and there will be a craft activity along with a fishing game.

Week 6, the last in the term, will take us back into space.

The activities will be adapted for the two age groups, with the 9:45 to 11:15 group aimed at three- to five-year-olds and the 11:45 to 1:15 group aimed at five- to seven-year-olds.

Come and join us!

Best wishes for 2014!

British Saturday Club would like to wish everyone all the very best for 2014. Have a wonderful New Year’s Eve/Hogmanay/Silvester, whether you are singing in the New Year with a bit of Auld Lang Syne, enjoying a festive Hootenanny with Jools Holland or sliding into the New Year with a bang, helped along by half a kilo of gunpowder and an empty Sekt bottle!

New term

The 2014 Winter term will kick off on 18th January, running for 6 weeks until 22nd February. The first group, starting at 9:45 a.m. will be for the 3.5-5 year-olds and we’ll be founding another group for the 5+ age group, beginning at 11:45. Each of the sessions runs for 1.5 hours.

Almost the end of term already!

Next Saturday, December 14, is the last Saturday Club this session! The first term has been a huge success, with kids, parents and leaders all giving very positive feedback.

We have made crowns, fireworks, mini people and pumpkins; we have had a photo shoot at Helmholtzplatz, played with glow sticks in the dark and made snow globes; read stories, run around and crafted like crazy. But, most importantly, we have had FUN!

From 10:30 til 11:30 next Saturday we’re opening our doors to family and friends to showcase the children’s work and celebrate Christmas! Pop in and see us. We will also be taking bookings for next session.

Taster session, Saturday 10th October

Today’s taster session was a great success, with an excellent turnout. Danielle started the session with the magic wand name game, followed by a song about autumn leaves, then the kids made beautiful autumn crowns, decorated with leaves, jewels, glitter and feathers. After a short break, Jessie took over, with the help of her lovely assistant, Mr. Squirrel, who had hidden acorns around the room that the kids had to hunt for. Then we made smelly pictures of acorns that the kids can take home along with their crowns to fill their homes with the scent of autumn.

Thank you to all those who came. The term will start on October 26th. For those of you who would like to sign up, the deadline for doing so is October 21st – places are limited so please book early! Drop us a message and we will e-mail you the registration form and all of the information. The link to the full term plan can be found below.Image
